Get in close. Submerge yourself within a strange new world in front of you, and take a hard look at the details. Welcome to Gabriel's Forest: a home to many, and no one.
My photographs open a discourse into human nature, and the deeper involvement we once had with the natural world, the land, and creatures that inhabit it. This series features both human and animal subjects that illustrate a relationship of coexistence.
I encourage viewers of my artwork to let themselves become immersed. The scenes I create are more than singular moments, but are episodic stories unto themselves.
Rich in contrast, my work is often dark, peculiar, and uncomfortable to viewers. This aura of mystery is purposefully reminiscent of traditional folklore. I believe we have isolated ourselves from both the beauty and darkness of the natural world. The powerful and robust emotional sentiment that greets viewers is not always warmly welcomed.
My artwork presents a mystery, a story, and a protagonist that tells it. Like tales penned of darker and emotional narratives, my work reaches out to the viewer as an active participant. Absorb the narrative.
Not all the answers are given. In the end, the story is yours to unravel.
